It’s been a long time since I came in late to the office

// November 28th, 2008 // 15 Comments » // lament

Yea, last time was at my former workplace – when we had to travel the previous day. By late, I mean really late like 12pm onwards. Ganee would allow use to come in late usually because the travels practically took the whole day. Another reason was because we only got to be back home for a weekend or so before flying back to Brunei. He was letting us spending time with family I guess.

There was one time when we had to stay back for CIMB up until 2am or something. It was nice to see “You can come in by 10 tomorrow” on my phone that night. Also there was a time when I didn’t sleep for 3 days for some major bugs fixing/feature requests but still had to go to work. Of course I didn’t look so well that day and he noticed it. After making asking around the office, he found out why and let me go off early at 3pm.

Come to think about it, if I were to stay awake for some work at my current workplace I don’t think I would do it though. There’s no kind of that flexibility here so why would I want torture myself. Besides, being appreciative is not what they are – on the contrary, they like to take the credits away from you. Sadly, this is how the government works. Why would I lament on this I don’t know. It’s not going to change soon anyway no matter how much I talk about it.

A little appreciation goes a long long way. For me, if I know my work is being recognized I would happily volunteer if there’s a need to stay back. I knew Ganee was observant enough to know the effort I put in that time so I didn’t mind to spend more time on it to get it done. I knew it would be reflected in the bonus. They bought me cakes on my birthday, they treated us to TGI after projects had been completed, they got us to Redang for 3D/2N holiday, the pantry always stocked up with food and we had PS2 to relax in between stresses. 3 days with no sleep? I didn’t mind at all.

Hey I love my job, it’s really easy to make me go the extra mile – be flexible, give laptops/dual screens and treat me like a human being.

OSCC people are really cool, seriously. But MAMPU really is killing us. Usually we would come on top which I believe came from the strength we all share – we know what we do and we respect each other. Yes we have our flaws but let’s not be negative now. We have just won AIPA for MyMeeting, the mood should be happy – other than that, really don’t know what to say on this. I should be happy but then again, for something to win an AIPA, it should be something more. Anyway, they were so happy today that they took pictures among themselves with the trophies they forgot the team who developed it in the first place. I wonder where that RM10k money prize will go. It is definitely interesting to watch and I suspect it would make a good bitching post next time.

Filler

// October 9th, 2008 // No Comments » // events, open source, personal, work

I suddenly found myself have so much things to do. MyGOSSCON is coming, I’m starting feeling the heat only today…. heh! Maybe because I had 2 long breaks in short period of time – umrah and raya. I’m supposed to be with the exhibition sub-committee but haven’t been told to do anything yet. =P

This is exciting —–> Malaysia’s premier Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) event. Adda, you should come. Siti, you too if your not in Brunei. Adda, bring Ajeed, safewrap him and dump in the car if you have too. So many people who I think should go. I’ll email this people later.

Anyways, I have so much stuff to say here but maybe later (or not). This is only a filler I guess.

In the mean time, I need a pair of sexy heels. The one I have is going to be an old hag soon, kesian but stuff ages so what can I do. Don’t think I don’t love my shoes old and new. It’s just that my car has run out of space. Yea I keep my shoes in my car, easier since I travel between Klang-Putrajaya-Cyberjaya alot. Sometimes it just helps alot when it’s available anytime when you want it. I think it’s going to be a habit of mine so I don’t have to spend 10 min everyday to figure out which one to wear….

Cough

// February 3rd, 2008 // No Comments » // personal

The last time I had a cough was when I was in Brunei. It was such a terrible experience since I had never had it so bad like that. Nothing worked. Went to see different doctors but both didn’t have the effect I want. The cough just wouldn’t seized. And then I found out about ubat batuk cap ibu dan anak and instantly addicted to it. What can I say. The effect was immediate. It didn’t taste like medicine. And it put me off to sleep just like that. Hey I was in such horrible situation where my throat hurt like hell everytime I coughed. So relying on such drug was more than I could cope.

And now I have a cough and I strongly believe I got it from my dear housemates (lalalala). And it doesn’t come alone does it. Along with it, come flu and fever. Now that fever has been taken care of, I’m left with flu and cough. Luckily it’s not as bad as Brunei but nevertheless it’s annoying. Having liquid in my nose is never a comfortable thing, and it has become a very efficient dust radar. I sneeze everytime I’m near it. It’s tiring ler. Not to mention every morning I wake up with throat so sore I’m afraid to speak.

You know, when I was a teenager it wasn’t that easy for me to get sick. But when I got sick it sure be a bad one. Why is it that when I was younger I only got sick like once or twice a year but when I’m all grown up possibility of getting a fever is next to getting my car serviced every 3 month period! Is it because I’m getting older? Aiya I’m still young lah.

Makes me wonder how is it going to be when I’m 30. Hmm…

I don’t think I laughed last night. Not that hard to remember one. Abah made me laugh today though. He forgot Mueh was in the car before driving away from his place.

There’s this little girl in my distant family, belah mak, anak sedara ke hape ntah, she’s around 10 or 11 but god only knows how rude she is with older people. Sangat la takde manners bila bercakap dengan orang tua. I witnessed once when she suddenly interrupted (verrrryy rudely) abah and an uncle talking, somewhere along the line “Hah! Bagus la tu, borak lagi, borak lagi!” at which I responded a quite verbal “Whoa!”. Terkejut weh tengok budak kecik buat camtu kat orang tua. Spent

You know what, the Brunei project I was involved in keeps coming back. Looks like I’m still involved.

I was going through the URS just now and actually I like that version better than what it is as a product now. I think I have made a mistake. I should’ve trusted my instinct then. I should’ve said something. It’s a bad design from the start, the design was all over the place and nobody was doing anything about it. Look how it’s affecting us now. Everyone was afraid of revamping the whole thing but I think it was needed for my module. I took over the module that had been reviewed over and over and I was assured that was how they wanted it. And now they come out with all the enchancement work the world can take and I can see it’s all stated in the URS. What’s going on? If the module has been reviewed before why didn’t they say something about the missing features? You know, I believe in taking some time now to save alot of time later. I’m not afraid of redoing the whole thing. I think they’re afraid of the word revamp. Actually the function is there developed by previous developers, you just need to apply the changes how it’s connected.

Yes there’ll be time involved and it’ll wear you down. But there’s nothing bad than treating the client wrong. Yes that’s how I feel right now. No matter how hallucinated Hajah and ill mannered she is, what’s there on the paper should’ve been done. I should’ve said something about this. Maybe I have. But I was shut down because we were in a hurry. Everything must rush. Only apply changes requested in review sessions. Ignore the rest.

They should’ve deployed more people there in Brunei. I’m alone is responsible for 4-5 man job and everytime I submit my manlist hour I always get frowned upon. Tell me, if you’re building a house alone, would you take the same time as 4 people would. Crazy huh?

Could it be if there had been a good analyst involved would’ve made things different? Or better QAQC from the PM? They were working blind from the start. How do they manage these people?

Thank god I’m not in Skali. The way they treat their employees are not top notch also. Look at Siti. That girl has the respect all there is from me. Taking everything at once and still alive. Come on Adda, like Ajeed says: Go sismi, go!

Urgh.

I have a really bad headache. Worries me though since I rarely get headaches. Must be the past busy week. I can’t work like this. Oh I need a massage. Massage me anyone?
